Why HIGH-END?

With its elegant and distinctive construction style, streamlined circuit design and a sound of the highest quality GG-SE10 is an art piece. The attention given to the exterior of the audio amplifier ensures its standing out amongst the standard valve designs. Made for audiophiles the sound precision is ensured with power supply separated in two stand alone units, which can be placed up to one meter away from the amplifier. The separation of the power supply from the amplifier isolates the sound signals from the unwanted effects of the mechanical vibrations, magnetic fields and stray currents present in and around the power supply transformers. In addition the amplifier chassis is made of non-magnetic material (4mm aluminium) laid onto a wooden frame, which itself is rested on an aluminium base with a 3-point support. These are only a few of the visible details contributing to the design perfection of the GG-SE10.

The GG-SE10 audio amplifier is the culmination of my research and design activities in the area of high-end audio engineering. Three years of experimentation with various circuit design solutions and different types of valves have been invested in studying the secrets of top-of-the-range valve amplifiers. In making the GG-SE10 the best rated components used in the worlds most renowned audio designs have been taken into consideration.

Audio unit

GG-SE10 is offered in two versions:

With low-sensitivity input – two-stage active part based on the single triode 6J5G, operating as an input/driver and an output valve 300B; for this version the use of preamplifier GG-PP1 is recommended.

 
     

With high-sensitivity input – three-stage active part based on the dual triode 6SN7, where one triode operates as a preamplifier and the other as a driver for the output valve 300B; for this version the use of passive controller PC-1 is recommended. The output transformer is one of the most important components for the quality of the valve amplifier. The ones used in the GG-SE10 are from the Swedish firm LUNDAHL, which is amongst the world leading makers of output transformers.

 

The intermediate transformer is considered the ideal way of driving the output valve, which ensures pure natural sound, better than using capacitor separation. The high impedance of the primary winding provides an ideal load in the anode circuit of the driving valve which delivers substantial amplitudes with high linearity and low non-linear distortions. The low dc impedance of the secondary winding feeds controlled grid current to the output valve through fast transients without clipping the signal at high powers.

It is preferable to use an input (impedance) transformer for matching the signal source with the input of the first valve. In addition to making the input of the amplifier insensitive to the parameters of the connecting cable, the input transformer also provides galvanic separation from the signal source. The use of input transformers contributes to the creation of a relaxing and soothing sound. The intermediate and the input transformers are also made by LUNDAHL.

The circuit design and the materials for the power supply are as important as those for the signal part of the amplifier. The power supply is implemented as two separate units. The dc conversion for each channel is realised with 3 rectifier valves and choke filters, which eliminates the noise. The separate power supply for the driver and the output stages, as well as the fixed negative bias of the output valve 300B, results in a controlled bass, pure sound and high dynamic range. The 300B cathode is heated through a well filtered dc source for improved noise reduction.

Power supply

The circuit design and the materials for the power supply are as important as those for the signal part of the amplifier. The power supply is implemented as two separate units. The dc conversion for each channel is realised with 3 rectifier valves /GZ34 and two EZ80/ and drossel filters, which eliminates the noise. The separate power supply for the driver and the output stages, as well as the fixed negative bias of the output valve 300B, results in a controlled bass, pure sound and high dynamic range. The 300B cathode is heated through a well filtered dc source for improved noise reduction.
